Kathak Workshop by Rachna Sarang

AILIV launched Sanskriti with the specific purpose of bringing India in all its cultural facets to your doorsteps. As part of that mission, we are proud to announce a Kathak workshop by Rachna Sarang, a well renowned Kathak teacher and choreographer. Depending on your interest, we might be able to offer Kathak lessons by her around here.

A brief Bio of Rachnaji

Rachnaji is a distinguished Kathak dance exponent, teacher and choreographer who has been performing, teaching and choreographing, for the last 40 years. She trained in Kathak under the great maestros Pandit Sundarprashad, Pandit Lachhu Maharaj and the renowned Padmavibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj; and in Bharatanatyam by Guru Kalyan Sundaramji. She has presented her work at various prominent venues in New York such as Madison Square Garden, Lincoln Center, Town Hall and American Museum of Natural History. She is running the Sarang Academy of Performing Arts under which more than 150 students are in her training. Her troupe performed for the World Music Institute at Symphony Space, NY with her sister, late Madhurita Sarang, accompanied by the renowned percussionist Ustad Zakir Hussain.  Her students have also performed and travelled with her all around USA and India. In the year of 2008 and 2009, two dance ballets were choreographed  by Rachna Sarang called Dasha Avatar and Kanh Kahani which group of twenty-five students participated, the music was composed by Pandit Jasraj, which was highly appreciated.
